Eagle Shores History

Eagle Shores Resort is one of the classic resorts dating back to the late 1920's. Our resort brings you the "Traditional Northwoods Charm" of the past. Originally built as an "American Plan" resort (meals were included) the resort was brought into its prime by Felix and Inez Styza around 1930 and called Styza's Birchwood Lodge. The resort enjoyed a reputation as one of the premier American Plan resorts through the 40's, 50's and 60's.

The resort was purchased by Ginny and Rudy Santarius in 1964 and renamed to Wisconsinaire. For 15 years the tradition continued with Wisconsinaire remaining as one of the leading Northern Wisconsin American Plan resorts. The resort was sold in 1978 and was later reposessed in 1986. Due to circumstances at the time, Ginny and Rudy decided to close the dining room and operate the resort as a housekeeping facility by adding kitchens onto the existing units. The resort was also renamed to Eagle Shores at that time.

In 1994 the resort was sold to myself (Ginny and Rudy's son, Jim), my wife Jan and our two children, Jill and Joe. Our daughter Jill lives in the Minocqua area with our grand children. Our son Joe and his wife Trisha currently live and work in the Minneapolis, MN area.

Again we welcome you to our resort and hope you will have a chance to stay with us.

Our daughter came across this old photo from a post card we think dated July 23rd 1923 of the original lodge back when the resort was called Colby's Birchwood Lodge - prior to it's purchase by the Styza family. Got to love the old car and lawn tennis net! You can compare it to the current lodge picture below it. The left side lobby and the two story addition were added on in the early 40's.
